Why I write:
When burying the dead, sometimes you must crawl into the grave to dig deep enough, and the only way out is through words. These words come from friends, family, strangers, songs, and even your own spirit. Syllables braid together to form an invisible ladder centuries old that connects earth to heaven. I discovered this ladder as a child, grieving my young mother. I sang in the hollow of loneliness until the musical echo became my best friend. Now, while I’m still climbing upward, I sometimes add rungs for others. There can never be too many handholds. You never know which one will spark the ascent of a soul buried alive.
